Loren & Lily (friends-to-lovers): This couple is one we've written with before, in another book, under another name, with similar themes but different plots and settings, and we spent years submitting the book to agents. With no luck. (Thankfully we didn't need a big publisher for you to love them too.) We kept the characters because we were so passionately obsessed with their desperation and love and ability to help and hurt each other all in one. They are each other's greatest life preserver, and they are each other's biggest weight. It's a synergy that we've come to love writing. Because Lo cannot exist without Lily, and Lily cannot exist without Lo. This kind of relationship can really only happen from being childhood friends. They know every facet of the other person. They can see into the core of their soul and empathize with every hurt and every piece of pain. This comes once in a blue moon, and we know, as writers, we'll never be able to replicate it again.
Connor & Rose (love-hate romance): This couple developed throughout Addicted to You. Connor was supposed to be a minor character, but the moment he was introduced, his voice just overpowered the page. He basically said, "I'm too good to be forgotten and too important to be let go." And we knew he'd be a perfect match for Rose in that moment. We created their back stories the second that Connor's introduction passed and the next chapter began. We experienced the "intellectual" side of college, more than we did any other, and this couple, for us, represented what it means to be ambitious in your early twenties and finding your equal. And to never settle for less than you deserve.
Ryke & Daisy (forbidden romance): This couple evolved from Ricochet, and it originated purely from our love of forbidden romances in television fandoms. Haley & Nathan from One Tree Hill, Caroline and Klaus from The Vampire Diaries, and so many more. If they're not there in our TV shows, we're searching for them (or desperately hoping one will soon exist). We wanted a couple as addicting as these, as polarizing, but one that you'd question "would they or wouldn't they" throughout years of tension. It's these couples that we love best in television, and in our own way, we wanted to replicate that addiction in our books. If Ryke & Daisy didn't have chemistry upon meeting, we wouldn't have continued it. We didn't want to force anything. Thankfully, we loved how they meshed together. Ryke admires Daisy's confidence and kindness and, of course, her wild heart. Daisy loves the fact that he cares so much, when it seems that no one else does.
