On March 17th (2014), Krista wrote a post about our journey to becoming authors. I honestly can't read it without crying. She details the start of everything, how Addicted to You was published, our struggles, our triumphs, and she ends with this:
Sometimes I just stop and look around, reminding myself where I am. Because this doesn't feel real. It's a dream that we've been fighting to achieve for what feels like a really long time.
Now it's my job to describe 2014, the ups and downs, but mostly the ups. The downs seem to be plagued only by our own insecurities, our self-doubts that arise right before we publish a new book and sometimes right after. The ups mean more to us. They're what stay with us after weeks and weeks and weeks.
In 2014, we published 5 books. (We were crazy.)
I think you all fueled us. We can't thank you enough for that, truly. We've wanted to do the Addicted series proud but not have you wait forever for it, and it's pushed us to be better writers. To work harder for the thing we love.
OUR YEAR: BOOK BY BOOK
We always take a little bit of time to release the back cover summary. Why? Well there's two of us, and coming to an agreement sometimes takes longer. And it can be harder to write a summary than an entire book. Below is the blurb, and keep reading for details about Thrive!
THE BACK COVER BLURB
Two years will change them forever.
When rumors spread like wildfire—like having three-ways with her boyfriend’s rock climbing brother—Lily Calloway spirals into a dark place. Her bedroom. Loren Hale is more confident and determined to keep their sex life private, even from their friends, and he helps Lily in the only way he knows how. But how much love is too much?
Their lives are filmed, watched, and criticized. And through it all, Lily and Loren have to face enemies they never thought they’d see, demons they don’t know if they should bury, and setbacks they didn’t think they’d meet. Not this soon.
And one rumor could be too much for them to handle. It will test their greatest limitations, and if they don’t hold onto each other, someone is going to drown.
WHY IS THRIVE A #2.5 AND NOT BOOK #3? SHOULD YOU READ THRIVE OR SKIP IT?
Thrive is extremely vital to the entire Addicted series.
We want to shout from the rooftops: Do not skip this book!
Before we wrote Thrive, our intentions for the "companion" novel were simple. We knew it would cover the same "time frame" as the Calloway Sisters spin-off series, and Thrive would exist for anyone who did not want to read the spin-off series.
However, Thrive became so much more. It's a book that is required to read if you have not read the Calloway Sisters books. And it his highly suggested to read if you've already read them. While it shows a few events that occur in Kiss the Sky & Hothouse Flower in Lily & Lo's POVs, the majority of the book is new material and we've woven a story that connects everything together in a way that should feel new but still familiar.
Also, Thrive is not a novella. It's a full-length novel that spans 2+ years, and it's largely ensemble, meaning it develops Lily & Lo and their relationships with everyone else. We contemplated for months whether we should call it #3, but then we'd have to change the title. So we kept it as #2.5 -- but if you're a fan of the series, hopefully you'll recognize how important this book is once you've flipped through the pages.
Thrive is also very character-driven. And for that reason, we feel like it's better suited to be called a #2.5 and not a #3. It skips some months at a time while lingering on others.
We can say with certainty that this is our favorite Lo & Lily book that we've written so far. We have shed more tears while typing Thrive than any other novel, and we've most definitely laughed out loud, courtesy of the entire cast of characters all in one room. Thrive is so special to us, and it's just now hitting us that we're going to send it off into the world soon. Krista and I have hourly long discussions at night, just talking about this book, about each character's transformations within these pages (*cue the waterworks*) and we're just really, really proud that this book is a part of the series and that we're able to give it to you.
I apologize for typing up an essay for you all to read. But this book is so important to Lo & Lily's journey, and I'd hate for anyone to skip it because we did wrong by mislabeling it in some way. So please, please remember that these years within Thrive are pivotal to Lo & Lily and their friendships with Ryke, Connor, Rose, and Daisy.
Thrive is almost here. Not so far away now. Thank you for reading all of this post ;) You deserve a slice of chocolate cake. *sending you a virtually piece of cake with extra sprinkles*
Hugs and kisses from us to you!
THRIVE RELEASES JULY 18TH!
We’re so excited that Loren Hale (from the Addicted series) is a part of the NACrushTourney14! Krista and I used to follow crush tournaments like crazy, so it's such an honor and so surreal that one of our characters is now in the running.
He really wouldn't have made it this far without all of you. Thank you for nominating Loren Hale (or maybe even one of the other Addicted series guys). Your love of the series is what got him this far. We seriously cannot thank you enough for sticking with the series, chatting with us, and being such amazing fans. It's made writing not only a privilege but a true joy in our lives.
Sign-ups at NA Alley are now open to become an advocate for Loren Hale, which is basically like his biggest cheerleader and supporter during the tournament. Follow the link to also see all the other "book boyfriends" who've made the tourney :)
If anyone is looking for Loren Hale inspiration, check out his Official Pinterest Page!
And if you’re a fan of the Addicted series, don’t forget to vote for Lo during the tourney!
